As a bodybuilder it’s very important to ensure you consume enough high quality protein to support your goals. I do this by having a variety of protein options available. Quest protein bars are a quick and easy solution especially if you are on the go.
Finding a quality protein bar made with whey protein as well as a decent amount of dietary fiber is a challenge. There are many protein bars that have similar protein, carbs and fats, but very few also come with a decent amount of fiber. I have been aware of Quest protein bars for years now however I have never actually eaten one until recently.
My go to protein bar for years has been the Kirkland protein bars from Costco. They provided very similar nutritional value as Quest protein bars but at a more affordable price. However these are no longer available in Canada so it has forced me to buy something else.
Quest Protein Bar
It’s funny for years I thought that since the nutritional value was the same that the Quest protein bars would be just like the Kirkland protein bars. Man I was so wrong on that front. Quest protein bars are soft and chewy and come in a variety of flavors. So far I have had Birthday Cake and Chocolate Sprinkled Doughnut and all I can say is wow! Looking forward to trying the rest of the flavors!
Yes the bars are more expensive but the old adage, “you get what you pay for” applies here. I have been getting my Quest protein bars at Walmart where they are currently selling at two boxes of 4 for $22. This works out to $2.75 a bar. Regular price is $12.87 per box of 4 which is $3.22 a bar.
If you live in the U.S. the prices for Quest bars are far more reasonable at $24.99 for 12 but alas everything is more expensive in Canada due to our exchange rate and the fact we are a much smaller market.
Quest protein bars have set the gold standard as far as I am concerned.
Quality – 10/10
Taste – 10/10
Flavors – 10/10
Nutrition – 10/10
Price – 8/10
I only gave 8 out of 10 for price as you can or at least use to be able to get the same nutritional value with the Kirkland protein bars at a better price. Since they are no longer available in Canada I am not sure that it’s fair to compare. When you consider all the other areas though cheaper is not always better.
When I asked about the Kirkland protein bars at Costco I was told they are reformulating their bars. If and when they come back on the market I will be sure to do a review comparing them to Quest protein bars. Until then Quest protein bars are my new go to bars.
